The rooms were clean and the staff was nice. They also held our luggage because we showed up before check-in and it was already up in our rooms when we showed back up later. I believe this is customary as the Hiraiwa Ryokan also did this for us.
The room came with a coin-operated TV that lasted a fairly long time, a low table with cushions to sit on, a thermal hot water pitcher, green tea bags, a tea pot with cups, and of course futons and yukata. In addition we were provided with tiny toothbrushes and tiny (TINY) single-use toothpaste tubes. (I kept mine because it was so cute and small.) There were decorations befitting the price range of the inn, and shoji-screens over the window for decoration and privacy (and to hide the lack of a view outside our window).
Also, the ryokan was VERY obviously someone's home. We weren't sure if the bathroom we found was OUR bathroom or a private bathroom, and we stumbled into the family's laundry room on accident. It was kind of awkward being paranoid about intruding on their privacy all the time, but they were very nice about it.
The shared toilet was very clean. The shared bathroom (no toilet as is customary) was also clean but we missed out on "hot bath time."
Overall it was a nice stay although there are more private experiences at about the same value if you look around.
Nonetheless this was a quaint place if you're on a budget, and gives you a much better look into a normal Japanese daily life than some other hotels or inns.

Hotel was clean and very friendly staff.

I stayed at the Herbert Park for the take that concert and my sisters room was robbed. I had came home from the States with my husband and she was after telling us she booked us a lovely hotel for the concert. But how wrong did we get that.
